Class of 21 Takes On Classic Cutting With Nick Arrojo + Paul Merritt
During the pandemic, we took our education programs online to offer digital education to stylists in need of inspiration, yet stuck at home. It was a great success with seminars like American Wave Certification, Razor Fundamentals, and Advanced Scissor Cutting going virtual for the first time.
But you can’t beat being up-close and personal for the energy, the creativity, and the fun of working alongside like-minded hairdressers. As restrictions are lifting in NYC, we have started to bring back in-person hands-on seminars.
This past weekend’s Classic Cutting Seminar was one such class. With 21 attendees, including several ARROJO Cosmetology School Graduates who came back to further refine their skills, it felt so good to be back doing what we love.

With Nick Arrojo and Paul Merritt –– two world-class classic cutters who learned the craft at Vidal Sassoon before going on to forge their own success stories –- teaching side by side with consummate ease, the group was treated to a variety of incredible demonstrations exploring geometric yet organic shapes with special focus on how to increase control and flexibility while putting a signature on each style.

Demonstrations were followed by hands-on mannequin workshops in which attendees were put through their paces, learning, practicing, mastering one length lines, long layers, classic and graduated bobs, and the modern shapes that add distinction to one’s work. Attendees also got bite-size mini lessons on strengthening hand and body position as part of the foundation for precision haircutting.

After two days and 16 hours of inspirational, career-shaping education each stylist went away knowing how to improve all their cuts, from the most simple to the most dynamic.
