Like it or not, Instagram is the new purveyor of fashion and beauty trends. Noting that Instagram’s current trending cut is the razor bob, a recent story by Hair.com’s Emily Arata explains, “this year's biggest influencers are saying buh-bye to their inches and opting for minimalism instead.”

Emily turned to the pioneer of modern razor cutting to get the lowdown on the razor bob resurgence.

“It’s not too short,” says Nick Arrojo in the story, “so it is less of a commitment than going above the chin. The razor bob is especially popular because the razor makes it easier for the hair to swing and to move.”

One of the razor bob’s defining characteristics, the feature story goes on to explain, is its ”. . . swingy length, often with an asymmetrical slant to better frame the face. . . “

Yet such tailored elements are not achieved by chance. Nick has championed a series of techniques that maximize the benefits of the straightedge blade.

"A scissor cut cuts from the ends up and from within," Nick explained to Hair.com. "In one cut, it can only remove length or weight, it cannot remove both. A razor cuts from shaft down, in effect tapering the hair by removing length and weight at the same time."
