Hair by ARROJO at Cristina Ruales RTW Fall 2016
NY Fashion Week meant that many of our stylists were out creating vanguard beauty looks for the world’s most influential designers. One of the most talked about was the look created by Amanda Jenkins and a team of ARROJO artists for Cristina Ruales’ 1990s-inspired show.
Galvanized by the idea of architecture vs. nature, Cristina Ruales’ extensive collection of Ready-to-wear clothing came with a grungy influence. Reminiscent of the fashions of the early 1990s, we saw asymmetrical necklines on dresses, sexy ruche tunics, and sharp pleats on skirts.
Keeping it modern, minimalistic and urban we also saw cool technical outerwear with built-in suspender straps.
To maintain the aesthetic direction in the beauty look, Amanda and the team created a variety of vanguard knots, twists, and twines using Hair Gel to sleek and hold, and ReFINISH dry shampoo to amp texture and volume.
“We wanted to keep the hair up and off the face,” explained Amanda. “To match the cool streetwear, we needed something grittier and tougher than a classic updo. We settled on using a tailored selection of twists and braids inspired by the asymmetry and angled lines of the collection, to help tie everything together and elevate the whole look.”
